Termination

A poem I wrote approximately a month ago...

I’m facing termination
Head in my hands
All these demands
Trying to understand in grim contemplation
Angry as I’ll get out, don’t know my next move
Constant interruption of whatever groove, I managed to lose
Perspective is shot
Red dot accuracy
Please don’t mind me speaking candidly
I think almost everybody on my job sucks!
Nah, I kid…
That’s an exaggeration of a frustration amplified by real eyes realizing idyllic idealism crashing to the ground
You don’t see it, therefore no sound, right?
Not revealed in the light, nothing to address, correct?
It didn’t attract an attention-whore, so it’s not worth a mention, is it
Perhaps, but it doesn’t change the rapid heartbeat
The anxiety
Worrisome pace, tension gets worse as I seem to have a date with destiny
I’m facing termination
Terminal outlook on par with an incurable disease or the last flight out prior to an unforeseeable tragedy
Could have made better decisions
Could have listened the first time
Could have managed my time instead of working overtime to get the job done
…only to find out the job is never done
Restless nights
Irritable without coffee
Losing weight by no effort of my own
Except the running in my head
Overdrive like a mother…
SHUT YO’ MOUTH
Okay, but you’d think a cessation would be at the end of an 8-hour day
My efforts saw Daniel and got jacked up with tequila and vodka
Add a Long Island Ice Tea as an insult
As I prepare for termination with my best poker face
Staring at the blade of the axe to make sure I see my reflection and don’t twitch
I have a situation
No, I don’t have grenades or questionably functional individuals thinking the world revolves around him or her
It’s Russian roulette and I have a revolver
Spin the cylinder
Lock it in place
Muzzle against my head
3 seconds before pulling the trigger
“Am I feeling lucky?”
My career remains alive
Idealism decapitated
Morale is crippled
But I move past the scare
And no one can terminate my will to fight
